We were all home: my mother, father, grandmother, and I. The world was dark, including our house, the only light coming in faintly through the windows. A monster prowled through our home, leaving few signs of its existence. All of us moved through the house in groups, attempting to avoid the beast and get to safety.
My grandmother and I stuck together, attempting to make it to a room near the front exit of the home. The room had no windows and only one door; the perfect hiding place. My mother and father hid in their own room, on the far west side of the house at the end of a hallway. Each step we took the beast drew closer; the only sign the tapping of its claws against the hardwood floor. While making our way to the room my grandmother tripped, the sound of her hitting the floor calling the creature to our location.
I pushed her out of the beast’s path and found myself pressed against a pile of rubble. It was impossible to make out the shape of the monster in the darkness, it’s body was cloaked completely besides the two glowing eyes which pierced my soul. A loud thud came from the west side of the house, where one of my parents had attempted to make a distraction. They were successful, and the creature leapt back into the darkness, moving in their direction.
We both snuck into the room, settling down near the entrance of the room. We left the door open, enough to sneak peeks through the crack and watch outside. As we looked we watched my mother and father scuttle across the kitchen, my father picking up a chair, presumably to sit in front of the kitchen window and look outside. However, the movement had caught the monsters attention.
We watched in horror as, to little surprise, the beast pounced both of my parents. The only thing we could see was the splatter of blood fly up from the darkness of the kitchen floor, glistening in the sunlight as it struck walls.
